Aggressive Growth

Odyssey HealthCare, Inc. (ODSY) estimates are soaring after the most recent earnings surprise.

Company Description

Odyssey Healthcare, Inc. provides hospice care services focused on palliative care for patients with life-limiting illnesses. Care is directed at managing pain and other discomforting symptoms and addressing the psychosocial and spiritual needs of patients and their families.

Another Surprise

Odyssey reported its fifth consecutive earnings surprise on Apr 28. Patient revenue saw a 2.4% bump, to $172 million. Successful expense controls also helped boost earnings.

Net income came in at $13.4 million, up 54% from the same period last year. Earnings per share worked out to 40 cents, topping the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 7 cents.

Estimates Surging

Following the news full-year 2010 estimates jumped to $1.54 on average, from $1.39. Next year's consensus is coming in at $1.65, up 16 cents. The new levels put Odyssey's annual growth rates at 24% and 7%, respectively.

The Chart

Shares of ODSY have been volatile lately, but the overall trend is decisively higher. I am looking for that trend to continue as investors posture for a more uncertain market.
