Two Beats and One Miss
VOXX had only one analyst covering the stock over the last year and a half so estimate data is thin at best. However, when there were estimates, the company beat expectations twice and missed once. The first beat was in the August 2010 quarter where the company posted $0.03 per share when the Zacks Consensus Estimate was calling for a break even quarter.
The miss was the following quarter, when the lone analyst was calling for $0.26 and the company checked in with earnings of $0.17. The next three quarters did not have an estimate, so there was no chance for a surprise.
VOXX Most Recent Reported Earnings
On January 9, 2012 the company reported revenue of $207 million up from $163 million in the year ago period. In addition, earnings per share came in at $0.38 up from $0.17 posted a year ago. The Zacks Consensus Estimate was look for $0.30 in earnings per share, so the $0.08 was a positive surprise of more than 26%
VOXX trades at a discount to the industry average on almost all major metrics that aggressive growth investors routinely look at. The only metric that shows the slightest of premium to the industry average is forward PE. VOXX trades at a 10.3x multiple compared to the industry average of 10.2x, now that is what we consider the slightest of premiums! Price to book and price to sales multiples are at sizeable discounts to the industry averages.
A quick look at the chart for VOXX shows just what investors like to see. The upward trend appears to be intact despite a recent consolidation to the $12 range. As more analysts pick up coverage the story will be told to a wider audience of investment professionals. VOXX is a Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy).
