What the he__ is going on? No, I am not going to go on a tirade like Mel, but really what is going on with the market? Last week was a seesaw making me take a step back. Bernanke is "uncertain", yet the talking heads are touting economic recovery (oh no) while the banks are not lending (though complaining no one wants to borrow...really?). Volatility is as hot as relations between North and South Korea (a powder keg). Indexes ended the week way up on positive earnings from big players like Apple (of course), AT&T, Ford and Verizon, but are they real? Or, merely the result of companies having trimmed down so much to make the bottom line look good? There is not a great deal of hiring going on...oh, but the House is coming to the rescue with benefits extension (still pondering if this is really a good thing...more debt?) Big Money is watching but not playing (guess they are all in the Hamptons). Do they know something? Not sure what to do? I am right there with you. And, when feeling like this, the best bet is to take a step back, breathe, stay tuned, stay cautious and guard capital (following the Big Money current mantra) at least until hearing the economic data on board for this week (especially durable orders and early reading of Q2 GDP). There will always be opportunities, but not for you if you are out of money.
