Dear Subscribers,
Investors pressed pause for nearly a whole week waiting for third quarter GDP to come out on Friday. Expectations called for +2% which is exactly what we got. Looking into the internals of the report you'll see a mixed bag. The best piece of news was the strength of personal consumption expenditures (Get in-depth analysis of the report here). With that investors breathed a sigh of relief and stocks ended the day pretty much unchanged.
Pulling back to the big picture stocks were up 3.6% in October after a hefty 9% gain in September. I still think there is another 3-5% upside through year's end, but after such a long run we may take a couple weeks off before attempting new heights. That certainly beats a double dip and resulting market tumble...which never happened much to some people's chagrin. In general, cautious optimism generally pays better with investing than dogged pessimism.
