May 13, 2013 (Chicago Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Walgreen store-brand ice cream line is getting two new flavors with inspiration from reality television.
In Sunday's episode, the last two contestants standing on NBC's "All-Star Celebrity Apprentice" -- country singer Trace Adkins and magician Penn Jillette -- were tasked with creating a new ice cream flavor for Walgreens "Delish Super Premium" line for the reality show's final competition.
Supported by eliminated contestants, Adkins' team developed an ice cream called "Maple Macadamia Mash-up" while the team led by Jillette, part of the Penn & Teller duo, created "Magic Swurtle," turtle candies and chocolate swirl on a vanilla ice cream base.
The Super Premium ice cream line was launched last October.
Walgreen has begun airing commercials and featuring in-store signs to promote the new ice cream flavors. The winner of the ice cream challenge will be announced on Sunday's conclusion of "All-Star Celebrity Apprentice."
The contestants will be judged on sales of the ice cream, fund raising and the success of the 60-second commercials they are making. Both flavors are available nationwide.
The Deerfield company partnered with the NBC television show last year on a challenge that required contestants to promoted a "Walk with Walgreens" health kit.
