NEW YORK, May 14, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- On a spectacular May afternoon, Bottomless Closet, a leading organization serving New York City's economically disadvantaged women, honored Bridget van Kralingen, Senior Vice President, IBM Global Business Services, and Rosanna Scotto, Fox 5's "Good Day New York" co-host, on May 13 at its Spring Luncheon in New York City.

More than 500 guests gathered for the annual springtime affair, held at New York City's Hilton New York. Each year, Bottomless Closet presents awards to outstanding individuals and institutions who have demonstrated remarkable leadership and commitment to improving the lives of others, especially women. The luncheon host was award-winning journalist Perri Peltz.

Van Kralingen of IBM Global Business Services accepted the award for her business acumen and leadership at IBM in expanding opportunities for women in business and charitable work. Three-time Emmy Award winner Scotto was honored for her commitment to improving the lives of women through her philanthropic efforts in the New York metropolitan area.

Bottomless Closet clients offered powerful testimonies on how they were referred to Bottomless Closet and how the nonprofit's financial and personal enrichment workshops have transformed their daily lives. Many thanked the dedicated volunteers for their personal attention and ongoing support.

Luncheon speaker Lynn Povich, award-winning journalist and author of The Good Girls Revolt: How the Women of Newsweek Sued Their Bosses and Changed the Workplace, spoke about the importance of making the workplace better for all women through her experience in joining other women in a 1970 landmark class action suit against Newsweek magazine for gender discrimination. "If we empower women, we can make a difference and can transform lives."

Sara T. Slocum, Board Chair, closed out the luncheon with inspiring remarks for guests to join Bottomless Closet in helping economically disadvantaged New York women achieve self-sufficiency. "Work with us to make transformation possible," said Slocum. "We can work on this together!"

Proceeds from the Spring Luncheon will support Bottomless Closet's mission to be the connection that inspires and guides disadvantaged New York City women to enter the workforce and achieve success.
