Comcast Corporation is ready to offer emergency services to its customers residing near the coastline of Florida as the tropical storm Andrea makes its landfall.

According to Comcast’s newly laid emergency operation program, if the weather department reports an approaching tropical storm starts preparing for the re-establishment of the areas affected by the storm, thereby reducing casualties.

A few measures are included in the emergency operation plan to minimize the impact of the storm. In accordance to the plan, Comcast arranges for better battery backup for providing generators for the company’s video and data transmission sites. Assembling all emergency and back up tools before the storm hits the area is also an essential step. The company also activates all its subsidiary call centers to help those customers residing in storm affected areas.

A few days back, AT&T Inc. – the second-largest telecom operator in the U.S after Verizon Communication Inc. –also started offering emergency services to its clients. The company had also set up a Network Disaster Recovery (NDR) program to act promptly in case of any emergency that includes any natural disaster or terrorist attack. Even DIRECTV offered emergency services when Hurricane Irene wrecked havoc.

Thus, by offering such emergency services to its clients, Comcast will not only be able to maintain undisrupted cable services but will also restore faith of its customers. In the reported quarter, Comcast lost 60,000 video customers compared with a net loss of 37,000 customers in the prior-year quarter. Hence, we believe that by offering such enhanced services to its subscribers the company can reduce its customer churn to some extent.
