Telenor Group and Alcatel Lucent (ALU - Analyst Report) recently signed a three-year agreement, whereby Alcatel will provide high speed Internet services to Telenor’s 2G, 3G and 4G customers across Europe and Asia. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The scope of the agreement also requires Alcatel to provide professional services expertise such as system architecture, design, planning and end-to-end integration and testing in order to offer customized solutions for Telenor's end markets.
Alcatel’s Internet solution adjusts video streams according to customer’s mobile device, location and subscription level. Therefore, this service automatically reduces the amount of bandwidth needed and enables consumers to watch more video within their subscribed data plan. The service by Alcatel also offers an added benefit of storing temporary copies of popular content on local servers.
Alcatel has entered into a number of new ventures in the recent past. In India, Alcatel signed an agreement with Telenor India to provide and manage transformation services Telenor Group’s subsidiary Telewings Communications Private Limited. In Iraq, Alcatel inked a contract with communication service provider Regional Telecom for setting up Iraq’s first-ever, super-fast 4G LTE technology for wireless broadband.
Alcatel currently has a Zacks Rank#4 (Sell) and is not a good investment option at the moment. However, some other players operating in the same industry and are worth considering for investment purpose at the moment are Ubiquiti Networks Inc. (UBNT - Analyst Report), ShoreTel Inc. (SHOR - Snapshot Report), both having a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), and Interdigital Inc. (IDCC - Snapshot Report), carrying a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
