Time Warner Cable Inc. (TWC - Analyst Report), the second largest cable MSO in the U.S., is offering several channels of lifestyle media company Scripps Networks Interactive Inc. (SNI - Analyst Report) on its TVEverywhere service. Subscribers will be able to view these channels using TWC TV applications on iOS and Android mobile platforms and also through Internet at TWC TV.com.
The live program will be available over any WiFi connection. Time Warner Cable has decided to significantly expand its WiFi network. Currently, it has over 150,000 WiFi access points across its footprint. The company has stated that the aforementioned applications were used nearly 5 million times in Jun 2013.
Time Warner Cable will offer five lifestyle channels of Scripps Networks, namely, HGTV, Food Network, Travel Channel, Cooking Channel and DIY Network. All these cable channels have loyal audiences with very high viewership ratings. Scripps Networks is offering its contents on the TVEverywhere platform from the previous quarter.
In the second quarter of 2013, Time Warner Cable launched several innovative products. These include a cloud-based user guide for set-top boxes, an update for TV applications together with more TVEverywhere features for iOS and Android platforms and video application for Roku TV streaming boxes, Samsung Smart TV and Xbox 360.
The TVEverywhere service is a tool for the pay-TV operators to counter competitive threat from online video streaming service providers such as Netflix Inc. (NFLX - Analyst Report).
Time Warner Cable already offers 1,100 hours of video-on-demand TV shows and movies from 26 top-rated networks and live TV news, sports and entertainment channels. On the other hand, Scripps Networks will benefit from increased viewership which will result in more advertising revenues.
Last month, Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ - Analyst Report) entered into an agreement with Scripps Networks to offer Scripps’ lifestyle content on the FiOS mobile application to Verizon’s FiOS customers.
