Itron, Inc. (ITRI - Analyst Report) recently unveiled the Intelis residential ultrasonic water device. This is a smart solution aimed at improving water management system.  

The Intelis ultrasonic water device is based on the latest measurement technology and advanced sensing. It also features integrated communication modules that will assist water utilities in better measurement and analyze water use.

Water scarcity has emerged as a prominent issue. In fact, water is one of the most critical natural resources facing challenges relating to consumption and supply. With its latest offering, Itron plans to add visibility to water distribution systems.

The meter has data logging capabilities and records consumption at configurable intervals. The device measures and captures flow rates data and temperature. In addition to measuring water volume, it can also detect air in pipes.

The Intelis ultrasonic water meter is designed in an eco friendly way and can be installed in flooded areas or places exposed to direct sunlight. The meter addresses unplanned maintenance costs and optimizes the ability to recycle its components. It also provides an advanced mobile or fixed network data collection system.

Itron, which belongs to the electrical equipment industry along with Agilent Technologies Inc. (A - Analyst Report) and Ametek Inc. (AME - Analyst Report), recently declared the installation of its millionth water communication module for Yorkshire Water. The company celebrated the landmark by presenting Yorkshire Water with a special award.

Liberty Lake, WA-based Itron produces electricity, gas, water and heat meters, data collection and utility software solutions along with various other associated metering products for residential, commercial and industrial, and transmission and distribution customers.

Itron currently retains a short-term Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Cognex Corp. (CGNX - Snapshot Report) also belongs to the same industry and holds a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
