Photovoltaic energy is increasingly becoming popular across the world and it is crucial for the biggest photovoltaic farms to get into action as soon as possible. On that note, Arlington Valley Solar Energy II facility has a lot to thank Fluor Corporation (FLR - Analyst Report) for completing its engineering, procurement and construction work (EPC) safely and ahead of schedule.
The Arlington Valley Solar Energy II facility for Arlington Valley Solar Energy II, LLC (AVSE II), a member of LS Power Group, is one of the largest photovoltaic farms.
The contract was awarded to Fluor in Oct 2011. In Feb 2012, another operations and maintenance services contract for the facility was awarded to Fluor for an additional five-year period.
This facility is situated in Maricopa County, Arizona and is the world’s largest photovoltaic farms supplying clean, renewable energy to the region. This 125 Megawatt Photovoltaic plant positions Arizona as one of the leading states installing solar panel or photovoltaic systems.
LS Power is a power generation and transmission group with a proven track record of successful development activities, operations management and commercial execution. The company has been involved in the development, construction, or operations of over 28,000 MW of power generation across the United States.
Photovoltaic energy’s eco-friendly nature drives its popularity. This form of energy captures the solar energy using photovoltaic cells. The main advantage is that the solar panel or the photovoltaic system does not always need bright sunlight to generate energy and can work on a cloudy day; thereby allowing the power grid to have uninterrupted generation of power. Furthermore, with the help of photovoltaic energy the carbon footprint can be reduced to a great extent
Fluor had announced the initial stage of completion of this contract in May 2013. With this major contract, Fluor became the leader in the solar power engineering and construction industry. For the construction of this facility, Fluor installed more than 600,000 PV panels and pulled 6 million feet of cable. This is one of the largest solar PV projects for LS Power in the world.
Fluor currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Other companies in the industry which look attractive for investment at the moment are VSE Corp. (VSEC - Snapshot Report), Quanta Services Inc. (PWR - Analyst Report) and Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (JEC - Analyst Report). VSE Corp currently has a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), while the other two carry a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
