Don't tell the boss, but plenty of employees will be online at work today doing their holiday shopping.
Today is Cyber Monday, historically the largest online shopping day of the year. The National Retail Federation estimates more than 131 million Americans will shop online today, up 2% from last year.
Amazon, the king of the online retailers, is doing new "cyber deals" every ten minutes on its web site and it will tell you when an item has already sold out.
Even retailers which normally don't do discounts for Cyber Monday are sending out e-mails touting free shipping for today.
Cyber Monday isn't restricted to just clothing, electronics and toys, however.
The leisure industry has also gotten into the act. Some companies, like AMR Resorts which operates Dreams, Secrets and Breathless brand resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico, have slashed prices at select resorts and are offering up to 50% off at others. Starwood is offering 20%-40% at a bunch of its hotels in North and Latin America if you book through Dec 6.
Cheapcaribbean.com is offering two Dominican Republic all-inclusive resorts for $30 a day if you book by midnight tonight. Travelzoo has Cyber Monday travel deals at up to 70% off.
