JPMorgan Investor Conservative Growth A (OICAX) seeks income and capital appreciation by investing primarily in a diversified group of One Group mutual funds that invest primarily in fixed income and equity securities.
One Group Investor Conservative Growth Fund is a 'fund of funds.' The fund's investment strategy is to invest in a diversified group of other One Group mutual funds.
Because this is a conservative growth fund, the majority of the fund's assets are invested in One Group bond funds, although a portion of its assets are also invested in One Group equity and money market funds.
Since inception of December 1996, the fund has been managed by Bala S. Iyer, who is a director and portfolio manager with Banc One Investment Advisors, his employer since 1995. His has previously held positions a portfolio manager, analyst, assistant professor and has taught finance and economics.
OICAX has outperformed the S&P 500 in the 1- 3- and 5-year categories, seeing 10 positive years, versus 2 negative ones.
The minimum initial investment is $500, while subsequent minimums are $25.
The fund's turnover rate is at 27% right now.
Franklin Templeton Conservative Target A (FTCIX), incepted in December 1996, has the objective of providing investors the highest level of long-term total return that is consistent with a lower level of risk.
Targeting the investors with a shorter investment horizon, the portfolio manager allocates each fund's assets among the broad asset classes of equity, fixed-income and short-term (money market) investments.
FTCIX offers dividends quarterly. Capital gains, if any, are distributed at least annually. But there is no guarantee that the fund will pay either income dividends or capital gain distributions.
The outpaced the S&P 500 in the 1-, 3- and 5-year timeframes, delivering 9 up years out of 12.
The portfolio manager, T. Anthony Coffey, is vice president of Franklin Advisers, Inc. He started at Franklin Templeton Investments in 1989.
The fund offers a very low turnover ratio, and individuals can buy in with an initial minimum investment of $1,000.
Gateway A (GATEX) seeks to capture the majority of the higher returns associated with equity market investments, while exposing investors to significantly less risk than other equity investments.
The fund may invest in all the 500 stocks included in the S&P 500 Index. Some of its top holdings include Exxon Mobile (XOM), General Electric (GE) and Microsoft (MSFT).
The fund distributes dividends and capital gains annually at the end of December.
GATEX is managed by J. Patrick Rogers since November 1994, who has held various leadership roles at Gateway Investment Advisers, Inc since 1989.
The minimum initial investment is $2,500 ($1,000 for IRAs). Minimum subsequent purchases are $100 for IRAs and non-IRAs.
The fund, sporting a turnover ratio of 14%, has outperformed in the 1-, 3- and 5-year periods.
