Today we are featuring top-performing "Corporate High Yield" fixed income mutual funds, which primarily seek high current income through investment in lower-rated corporate bonds.

Investors can find such funds by checking out the entire list of the Zacks #1 Rank Corporate High Yield Fixed Income Funds.

3 Solid Samples

Iron Strategic Income (IFUNX) seeks to maximize total return through strategic re-allocation of assets among fixed income securities, with a bias towards high yield. It is non-diversified.

The fund may invest up to 15% of net assets in illiquid securities. It seeks to provide competitive returns in rising markets and greater stability in declining markets.

Unit holders have to make a minimum initial investment of $10,000 to enter this Zacks#1 Rank ("Strong Buy") fund. It has an expense ratio of 1.22%.

Wilmington Broad Market Bond A (WBRBX) was incepted in December 2005. The investment seeks a high total return while also striving to achieve high current income.

The fund invests at least 80% of its assets in investment-grade fixed income securities and may invest up to 20% of its assets in high-yield bonds and preferred stocks, and up to 10% of its assets in investment-grade foreign bonds. It typically maintains an average dollar-weighted duration of 4 to 7 years.

Clayton Albright has been lead manager at the fund since its inception. The fund has outstripped the total returns of its benchmark index in the last 1-and 3-year periods.

Janus Adviser Flexible Bond A (JDFAX) seeks to obtain maximum total return, consistent with preservation of capital by primarily investing, under normal circumstances, at least 80% of its assets in bonds.

The fund's bond holdings include, but are not limited to, government bonds, corporate bonds, convertible bonds, mortgage-backed securities, and zero-coupon bonds. Portfolio managers at the fund apply a "bottom up" approach in choosing investments.

The fund distributes dividends and capital gains, if any, annually. It has an expense ratio of 0.80%.
