McDonald's to Introduce Regional Variety in McPick2 Menu
According to CNBC, McDonald's Corp. (MCD - Free Report) is renovating its menu for its McPick2 promotions. From May 24, the Big Mac, the Filet-O-Fish sandwich and the 10-piece Chicken Nuggets will be fixed items on the McPick 2 for $5 menu. However, the remaining items on the McPick 2 menu can vary from region to region.
The burger giant has given local operators the freedom to choose three out of six items in the value pick menu depending on what is popular in their area.
This value offering is another marketing strategy of this burger giant to continue its sales momentum next year. After posting negative comps for a long time, the company recorded positive global comps in the third quarter on the back of its aggressive efforts like product innovation and roll out of more limited-time offerings. Other efforts like trimming complicated menus to speed up service and providing items with special ingredients that are popular in certain regions of the country have also been its priorities.
McDonald's is trying to strengthen its position through various sales initiatives like menu innovation, introduction of value meals, efficient marketing and promotions, and improved service, which led to positive comps across all its segments during the first quarter of 2016. However, given its past track record of weak comps, it would take some time for all the key segments to record a consistent and substantial improvement. Meanwhile, higher labor costs, along with currency headwinds, would keep profits under pressure.
