Hershey Launches Yogurt Flavored Brookside Snack Bars

Read MoreHide Full Article

The Hershey Company (HSY - Free Report) recently came up with yogurt flavored Brookside line of Fruit and Nut Bars as it shifts focus to snacking items.

The Brookside Yogurt Flavored Fruit & Nut Bars combine real fruit with natural flavors, nuts like almonds with a delightful yogurt-flavored cream. These gluten-free, non-GMO bars contain no artificial flavors and come in three varieties – Cranberry Blueberry with Citrus, Vanilla Fig, and Mango Pineapple.

The yogurt flavoured bars are now available at select retailers nationwide for a suggested retail price of $1.59. The Cranberry Blueberry with Citrus and Mango Pineapple varieties are also available in a four-count multipack at a suggested retail price of $4.99.

So far, Hershey sold only dark chocolate flavored Brookside fruit and nut bars.

In 2016, the company has shifted focus to snack as it faces declining demand for its chocolate products. A shift in consumer preference toward healthier snacks like nuts and increased competition from the broader snacking category is lowering the demand for chocolate. Moreover, changing shopping habits in the U.S., such as channel shifting and e-Commerce, have been hurting growth in the chocolate category.

Other than Brookside bars, Hershey has many other snacking items like Reese’s Snack Mix and Hershey’s Snack Bites canisters in the pipeline.

Hershey intends to use simpler ingredients like locally produced milk, roasted California almonds, cocoa beans and sugar in its chocolate products to cater to the growing health-conscious consumers. The company has committed to eventually shift to simpler ingredients in its popular chocolate brands like Hershey’s Kisses, Milk Chocolates and Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bars. Keeping in line with this, Hershey launched healthier versions of Hershey’s Kisses milk chocolates and Hershey’s milk chocolate bars made with simple ingredients and no artificial flavors in 2015 holiday season.

The Brookside Yogurt Flavored Fruit & Nut Bars is a significant milestone in this direction.
