Read MoreHide Full Article

General Mills, Inc. (GIS - Free Report) recalled limited quantity of a frozen Beyond Meat Vegetarian Indian Curry with Beyond Chicken. The products were recalled to avoid possible contamination of Listeria monocytogenes, though no illness were reported among customers. These were produced during a week in Apr 2016 and were made available at Whole Foods.

Beyond Meat Vegetarian Indian Curry with Beyond Chicken uses whole garden frozen peas as one of its ingredients. The producer of whole garden frozen peas issued a national recall for the possibility of Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Sales and profits in General Mills’ U.S. Retail segment have been soft due to lower demand amid changing consumer food preferences. In fiscal 2016 so far, increased competitive activity in Yogurt and reduced display and merchandizing levels have hurt results in the segment. However, management’s renovation and innovation efforts and higher level of advertising are expected to lead to better organic sales trends in the U.S. Retail segment in the fourth quarter, mainly in cereals and snacks.

However, lower gross margins and higher media expenses are expected to put pressure on profits. Nonetheless, significant restructuring savings will provide bottom-line support like previous quarters.

General Mills carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
