On today’s episode of the Zacks Friday Finish Line podcast, Content Writer Ryan McQueeney and Editor Maddy Johnson take on this week’s biggest news from the investment and financial world.
The first bit of financial news on this week’s episode is on everyone’s favorite privately-held tech company, Uber. After two years and billions of dollars spent trying to gain a foothold in China, Uber has finally conceded victory to top rival Didi Chuxing. Under terms of the deal, Uber will sell their China operations to Didi for $7 billion, valuing Didi at $35 billion.
Ryan and Maddy also covered some news from two other favorite privately-held tech companies, Instagram and Snapchat. Earlier in the week, Instagram, the popular photo-sharing app, announced a new feature called Stories, allowing users to post photo and video slideshows that disappear after a 24-hour period. This sounds shamelessly familiar to Snapchat Stories, which lets its users do the same thing.
This week was another busy week in earnings. The hosts discussed fitness wearable company Fitbit Inc. , who reported its Q2 fiscal 2016 results on Tuesday, and beat both earnings and revenue estimates. Media giant Time Warner Inc. reported their Q2 results on Wednesday, with EPS easily beating estimates but revenue missing expectations due to decline at Warner Bros.
Finally, Ryan and Maddy discussed electric car maker’s Tesla Motors Inc. (TSLA - Free Report) Q2 earnings. The company unsurprisingly missed both earnings and revenue estimates, as well as reported shipment totals of 14,402 vehicles, well below its forecast of 17,000 vehicles. The hosts discussed the report, as well as investor confidence in Tesla and if the company will ever make good on its lofty promises.
