Read MoreHide Full Article

NVIDIA Corp. (NVDA - Free Report) recently announced three new high end graphics cards for notebooks. GeForce GTX 1080, GTX 1070 and GTX 1060 are the first consumer graphics cards based on the Pascal architecture.

These new graphics cards provide enhanced performance, with the use of Dual-FET power supply and multi-phased power controllers, specially designed for gaming enthusiasts. We believe this will take the mobile gaming experience to a new level.

The technical specifications of the products are quite impressive. With FinFET 16nm process and an amazing performance at 120Hz and 4K gaming capability, these new Pascal-based GPUs mark the biggest enhancement in the history of gaming notebooks. These new products are now available from the world's leading notebook OEMs and system builders, including Asus, EVGA, Lenovo, Gigabyte, Acer, MSI, etc.

With the launch of these GPUs, NVIDIA can maximize user experience by offering high performance computing (HPC) capabilities. Also, these GPUs are said to be more energy efficient than the earlier versions. Hence, the launch of this product will enable NVIDIA to increase its customer base and help in garnering additional revenues.

The new GTX 10-Series GPUs for notebooks also support NVIDIA VRWorks technologies. The new GPUs offer twice the energy efficiency in VR that addresses several lighting and graphics challenges This advancement allows notebook gamers to play VR games with higher levels of detail that enhances the viewing experience and minimizes motion blur or flicker, thus making it appear more realistic.

It is worth noting that in the last-reported quarter (second-quarter fiscal 2017), NVIDIA reported 25% year-over-year increase in revenues from the GPU business, driven by strength in GeForce GPUs and Gaming revenues. Revenues from Gaming GPU increased 18% on a year-over-year basis.

We believe that the latest product launches will further strengthen the company’s strong position in the market for high-end discrete graphics.

NVIDIA seems to have the right business approach, targeting some of the most significant growth areas in technology. These include cloud computing, mobile Internet and energy efficiency. While this will no doubt enhance its brand equity, we might notice a meaningful rise in research and development expenditure moving forward.
