Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. has inked a deal with online video-sharing platform Vimeo in order to deliver world-class online services to its customers. With this deal, the renowned film studio has become the first Hollywood Studio to license its television slate to the latter’s global television store. Notably, the service is one of the first to provide high-end premium scripted U.S. content to consumers in more than 150 countries.
New York City-based Vimeo is a popular website on which viewers can upload, share or watch online content. It is also among the few video-sharing sites that offer high-definition quality. Presently, it is an operating business of IAC/InterActiveCorp (IAC - Free Report) which aims to provide uninterrupted superior-quality video content to online viewers.
Meanwhile, Lions Gate’s television content comprises around 80 television shows broadcast across 40 networks. Under the latest partnership, Vimeo will be allowed to run Lions Gate’s complete set of television series, including the blockbuster Orange is the New Black, Golden Globe-nominated dramedy Casual, the hit series The Royals, and iconic Emmy Award-winning drama, Mad Men. The deal also covers other well-known titles like Weeds, Nurse Jackie, Boss, Blue Mountain State and Manhattan. Lions Gate movie titles will also be available on a rental basis across the U.S.
The service will be launched at the MIPCOM 2016 Global Market in Cannes, with kickoff ceremonies scheduled for Oct 18.
With an aim to deliver high-end content to its viewers, Lions Gate has also inked partnerships with Starbreeze, Steam, Google's virtual reality Daydream initiative and Comcast's Xfinity service among others. Recently, Lions Gate announced the buyout of media and entertainment company, Starz.
Note that Lions Gate’s management keeps an eye out for strategic acquisitions and alliances to enhance its competitive edge, maximize returns, and build a diversified portfolio. The company’s film category includes the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise and the Now You See Me and John Wick series among others.
