BlackBerry Collaborates with Zimperium on Mobile Security

Read MoreHide Full Article

BlackBerry Ltd. recently announced that it has partnered with Zimperium Inc. to enhance mobile security for enterprise and government customers. This deal also highlights BlackBerry’s growing focus on software services as a major source of revenues. Zimperium is well known as a provider of mobile threat detection platforms.

Details of the New Service

The new service by the companies is designed to provide threat detection, risk analysis and prevention against security risks for mobiles operating on both iOS and Android platforms. The service includes integration of zIPS by Zimperium with BlackBerry’s Good Dynamics Secure Mobility Platform and BES12.

Zimperium’s zIPS is capable of real-time evaluation of the behavior of the operating system on which the mobile device is running and detection of any deviations. It also runs continuous checks to single out any malicious behavior across the system’s CPU memory. In the event of detection of any malicious behavior, it immediately reports the threat which is the point at which BlackBerry’s services come into the picture. BlackBerry’s enterprise mobility management controls start immediate remediation and either remotely lock or remove containerized apps on the affected device.

The Good Dynamics Secure Mobility Platform is part of the Good Secure EMM Suites of BlackBerry. Enterprises which use this platform can ensure that apps deployed on it meet the stringent requirements of mobile enterprise that are required to protect the devices. Furthermore, the Goody Dynamics platform is well integrated with the BES12 offering by BlackBerry. Per the Chief Security Officer of Black Berry, Dave Kleidermacher, the integration of zIPS with Good Dynamics and BES12 provides holistic threat detection, visibility and protection against a range of network, device and application mobile attacks targeted at corporate apps and data.

We believe that the rapidly increasing use of mobile devices makes such products a necessity for the industry and expect this partnership to further boost BlackBerry’s efforts in revamping its core business model.
