JetBlue (JBLU) Beats on Q4 Earnings

JetBlue Airways Corporation (JBLU - Free Report) is a low-cost carrier which is based in Long Island City, NY. The carrier, founded in 1998, operates primarily on point-to-point routes. It operates an average of 800 daily flights and carries more than 30 million customers annually to multiple destinations in the U.S., Caribbean, and Latin America.

 The company has a decent track record with respect to earnings, having outpaced the Zacks Consensus Estimate in three of the last four quarters. The average earnings beat is 6.49%.

We have highlighted some of the key stats from this just-revealed announcement below:

Earnings: JetBlue’s earnings (excluding special items) of 50 cents per share beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by a penny. Earnings declined substantially from the year ago figure due to higher costs.

Revenue: Operating revenues came in at $1,641 million, in-line with the Zacks Consensus Estimate. Revenues improved 2.9% from the year-ago figure. The top line was benefitted primarily by a 5.4% increase in other revenues. Passenger revenues climbed 2.7% in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Key Stats to Note: For the first quarter of 2017, the carrier expects capacity to increase in the band of 4.5% and 6.5%. For the full-year 2017 the metric is expected to increase in the range of 6.5% to 8.5%. Consolidated operating cost per available seat mile, excluding fuel, is expected to grow in the band of 3% to 5% in the first quarter of 2017. For the full-year 2017 the metric is expected to grow in the range of 1% to 3%.

Stock Price: The earnings beat pleased the investors. Shares of the company were up in pre-market trading at the time of writing.
