Amazon.com Inc.'s (AMZN - Free Report) film production division, Amazon Studios, has scheduled the premiere of its original one-hour series, Patriot, on Feb 24.

For now, the series will be available for Prime members on Prime Video in the U.S., UK, Germany and Austria. Later this year, the show will be available on PrimeVideo.com for Prime Video members in more than 200 countries and territories.

The series can be viewed via the Amazon Video app on TVs and connected devices like mobile, Fire TV, and online at Amazon.com/originals, at no additional cost to prime membership.

Over the last one year, shares of Amazon have been steadily treading higher. The stock has returned 44.46% compared with the Electronic Commerce industry’s gain of 41.77%.

About the Series

Patriot is based on the life story of intelligence officer John Tavner who makes efforts to prevent Iran from going nuclear. In the story, Tavner will forgo all safety nets and assume a mid-level employee at a Midwestern industrial piping firm to complete his mission. However, the federal government’s incompetence and his own day job in an industrial piping company will put his mission in danger.

The start cast includes Michael Dorman, Terry O’Quinn, Kurtwood Smith and Michael Chernus.

The series will make its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival Berlinale. It has been executive produced by Steven Conrad, James Parriott, Glenn Ficarra, John Requa, Charles Gogolak and Gil Bellows.

Our Take

The increasing popularity of tablets, smartphones and web-connected TVs has enhanced online-video viewing and continues to attract consumers as well as leading technology companies, like Alphabet (GOOGL - Free Report) and Apple Inc. (AAPL - Free Report) .

Therefore, Amazon is leaving no stone unturned to boost its digital media sales and attract new viewers, by adding varied series and movies to its content lineup and making Prime Video more attractive.

With intense competition in online video content, majors such as Netflix, Inc. (NFLX - Free Report) , Hulu and HBO, are seeing substantial success. It is natural for Amazon to compete against them with successful acts of its own. These new shows are expected to help Amazon penetrate further into the growing streaming market, at a rapid pace.
