Nordstrom and Others Dump Trump: Here's Who Still Sells the Trump Brand

Read MoreHide Full Article

Ivanka Trump's fashion line has come under fire recently as the political turmoil surrounding President Donald Trump and his administration rages on. And now, some retailers have stopped carrying Ivanka Trump’s brand.

Over the last several weeks, corporate America has responded to President Trump’s travel ban and other initiatives of the new Trump administration, in a variety of manners. The biggest display came when nearly 130 companies, including Apple (AAPL - Free Report) , Facebook and Microsoft (MSFT - Free Report) , took to the courts to fight against the controversial travel ban from seven Muslim-majority nations.

The Trump Brand Battle

Macy's (M - Free Report) stopped selling Donald Trump's line of menswear in Summer 2015, after the then presidential candidate made inflammatory remarks regarding Mexican immigrants. NBC Universal, owned by Comcast (CMCSA - Free Report) ended its business relationship with Trump for the same reason when it opted to no longer air his Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants.

Donald Trump's critics have urged consumers to stop shopping at retailers that sell Trump family brands, including Ivanka Trump's line of women's clothing and accessories. At the same time, Trump supporters have threatened to stop shopping at businesses that cut ties with any Trump brands.

On February 2, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick stepped down from Trump's economic advisory board amid the travel ban fight. The move leaves Tesla’s (TSLA - Free Report) Elon Musk as the only remaining big-time tech executive still sitting on the board.

The battle between corporate America, consumers, the Trump administration and Trump brands is likely just heating up.

Grab Your Wallet Campaign

Shannon Coulter, a San Francisco-based political activist, began the hashtag #GrabYourWallet campaign on social media in November. Since then, the campaign has spawned into a website that constantly updates its lists of companies that still carry or no longer carry Trump family brands and products.

The website lists the “Top Ten Companies We’re Boycotting, Other Companies We’re Boycotting and Companies NOT Being Boycotted At This Time.”

Nordstrom (JWN - Free Report) officially announced on February 2 it will not buy Ivanka Trump's brand for the upcoming season. The company first came under pressure to cut ties with all things Trump in Oct. 2016. The company cited her brand’s declining performance as the reason it would no longer be carried, not external political pressure. Nordstrom’s stock went up after the formal announcement.

Neiman Marcus dropped Ivanka Trump’s high-end jewelry line from its website nearly the same time Nordstrom made the move. Neiman representatives took a similar stance, citing the brand's recent poor performance.

Belk, a Charlotte, North Carolina-based store no longer sells Ivanka Trump’s brand online. The company cited performance metrics for making the change. But, the company still carries her brand in stores.

Wayfair (W - Free Report) , which sells furniture and home décor, dropped Trump Home products in November. Fellow home design retailer Bellacor also dropped Trump Home.

Walmart (WMT - Free Report) -acquired e-commerce power Jet.com began to drop Donald Trump and Ivanka Trump-branded apparel and perfume, according to a Mic report. ShopStyle, another e-commerce site, pulled Ivanka Trump products.

St. Petersburg-based Home Shopping Network dropped some Trump Home offerings. But HSN stated the company did not have to cut ties with Ivanka Trump’s brand, amid reports it had dropped her brand as well. HSN stated it has never sold any Ivanka Trump products.

Sears Holdings (SHLD - Free Report) removed 31 Trump Home items from online stores. But the company pushed back Monday amid reports it had stopped carrying Trump brands.

Company’s Still Selling Trump Brand

Despite the turmoil, many brands have not dropped the Trump brand. Macy's stopped selling Donald Trump's line of menswear, but it still sells Ivanka Trump's line. This has placed the company firmly at the top of the grabyourwallet.org boycott list.

Amazon (AMZN - Free Report) , Zappos, Bloomingdale's, Dillard's, Bed Bath & Beyond and LL Bean are also all listed in the top ten of #grabyourwallet’s Trump-based boycott rankings.
