United Technologies Corp.'s (UTX - Analyst Report) subsidiary Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. recently received a $73.2 million contract from the U.S. Army for six Black Hawk helicopters modified for the Brazilian Air Force. The work will be performed in Stratford , Connecticut , and is expected to be completed by February 2010.

Black Hawk helicopters are versatile, dependable and rugged and ideally suited for multi-mission operations. With more than 2,300 aircraft in service through 30 years of strong performance for the Black Hawk family, UH-60M and S-70iTM Black Hawk helicopters clearly demonstrate Sikorsky's continued commitment to customers' tactical operations. The UH-60M helicopter culminates more than 30 years of technological advancement, improved performance and real world experience.

This advanced Black Hawk aircraft serves dependably in the most extreme conditions found on earth. Based on the battle proven Black Hawk helicopter, the S-70i helicopter has been designed with the specific features and capabilities requested most by international military customers, at an affordable price. Pratt & Whitney, another UTX subsidiary, received a contract valued at nearly $6 million from the U.S. Air Force to provide parts for the F119 engine.

The F119-PW-100 turbofan is the only operational fifth generation fighter engine today, and is the most advanced production engine combining stealth technologies and vectored thrust with high thrust-to-weight performance to provide unprecedented maneuverability and survivability. Two Pratt & Whitney F119 engines power the U.S Air Force’s F-22 Raptor. Supercruise, the ability to operate supersonically without afterburning, gives the F-22 exceptional combat performance without compromising the mission range.

United Technologies Corporation provides high technology products and services to the building systems and aerospace industries worldwide. Otis, Carrier and UTC Fire & Security (collectively referred to as commercial businesses) serve customers in the commercial and residential property industries worldwide.

Carrier also serves commercial, industrial, transport refrigeration and food service equipment customers. Pratt & Whitney, Hamilton Sundstrand and Sikorsky (collectively referred to as the aerospace businesses) primarily serve commercial and government customers in both the original equipment and aftermarket parts and services markets of the aerospace industry; Hamilton Sundstrand and Pratt & Whitney also serve customers in certain industrial markets. Major Competitors include General Electric Company (GE - Analyst Report) and Boeing Company (BA - Analyst Report). We currently have a Neutral recommendation on UTX.
