Horace Mann (HMN) Rewards Shareholders with 4% Dividend Hike

In a bid to return more value to shareholders, the board of directors of Horace Mann Educators Corporation (HMN - Free Report) recently approved a 4% hike in its quarterly dividend. The company will now reward shareholders with a dividend of 27.5 cents per share as against 26.5 cents paid on Dec 30, 2016.

Shareholders on record as of Mar 20, 2017, will have the meatier dividend in their pockets on Mar 31, 2017. The increased payout translates to an annualized dividend of $1.10 per share. Based on the closing share price of $41.55 as of Mar 8, the increased payout translates to a dividend yield of 2.53%.

The recent increase marks straight nine years of dividend hikes by the company. We note that the company's operational strength has enabled it to regularly raise dividends. The company has grown its dividend at a nine-year CAGR of 20.2%.

Horace Mann boasts a robust capital position and a solid financial foundation. Moreover, the company remains focused on returning cash to shareholders through initiatives like the ones mentioned above.

Shares of Horace Mann have lost 2.80% year to date, underperforming the Zacks categorized Multi line Insurance industry’s increase of 1.70%. Nonetheless, we expect that the company’s robust premium and investment income as well as solid capital position to help the stock gain momentum in the near term.
