Time Warner's Game of Thrones to Return on HBO on July 16

Game of Thrones fans can rejoice as the hottest property of Time Warner Inc. is all set to return for its highly anticipated seventh season on July 16 and will be premiered on HBO. However, the new season, unlike its predecessors, will feature only seven episodes instead of the usual 10.

Created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, this fantasy saga has become a worldwide phenomenon. Both Benioff and Weiss have confirmed that the seventh and eighth season, will have 13 episodes in total. The eighth will be the swan song season of this global craze and will comprise of six episodes only.

Game of Thrones first aired on HBO in 2011. Per sources, with a ‘mere’ 2.2 million viewers tuning in for the first season to a record-breaking 8.9 million viewers for season six finale, the show has come a long way. With 23.3 million viewers across all platforms last season, it has emerged as HBO’s most popular show. Notably, Game of Thrones also has the distinction of being one of the most illegally downloaded shows in the world.

With the return of Game of Thrones and considering the hype, anticipation and popularity surrounding the show, season seven is all set to be another successful one for HBO.

The company’s foray into new markets, strategic investments in video content and technology, and digital endeavors bode well for the stock. In the said period, the stock has gained 39.9%, while the industry has advanced 17.7%.
