Shares of EnteroMedics were up more than 10% in morning trading Tuesday after it was confirmed that the medical device company’s new neuro-blocking obesity treatment will be featured on the daytime talk show The Doctors.

According to a company press release, the show will highlight EnteroMedics’ “vBloc Neurometabolic Therapy,” a treatment for obesity, metabolic diseases, and gastrointestinal disorders. Frank Chae, the chief surgeon at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Colorado, along with one of his patients that received vBloc Therapy, will be guests on Tuesday’s episode of the show.

The Doctors is a well-respected television show many people watch in order to learn about different medical conditions, including obesity, and the latest innovative treatments available to them,” said EnteroMedics CEO Dan Gladney.

vBloc Therapy is approved to help with weight loss in adults above the age of 18 who are obese, with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 to 45 kg/m2, or a BMI of 35 to 39.9 kg/m2 and a related health condition such as Type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure.

The treatment is actually a hunger-controlling device that is implanted under the skin. It regulates the vagal nerve and makes patients feel less hungry throughout the day; along with a dietitian and a set of web-based tools, the device can help users lose an average of 28% of their excess weight in the first year.
