What is the Switch?

The Switch is a pretty cool new concept from Nintendo that blends the in-home console and on-the-go gaming experiences. The device is “powered” by its Joy-Con controllers, which have motion sensing technology and can be used as standalone devices, in conjunction with a grip that creates a classic controller feel, or attached to a tablet-like device for mobile gaming. That tablet can also be docked in the Switch’s stationary component for traditional console gaming.

Record Sales Already

Although some had their doubts about the Switch, there has been no denying the console’s early sales numbers. According to Nintendo, the Switch has been the best-selling Nintendo console in the U.S. ever so far. The company looks likely to hit its first-month sales goal of 2 million units.

So why is the Switch selling so well? Is it the new hybrid concept? Or is it the incredible popularity of one of its launch titles, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild?
