U.S. national wireless carrier T-Mobile US Inc. (TMUS - Free Report) has announced that it will sell the latest versions iPhone 7 devices, both online and in stores, starting Friday, Mar 24. The announcement came close on the heels of Apple Inc.’s (AAPL - Free Report) disclosure of iPhone 7(Product)Red and iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone SE with double storage, and the new 9.7-inch iPad.

To remain competitive, U.S. telecom behemoth Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ - Free Report) also announced the offering of the same products from the same date on its website. Meanwhile, United States Cellular Corp. (USM - Free Report) , the wireless subsidiary of Telephone & Data Systems Inc. (TDS - Free Report) , is also on the same track.

Competitive Wireless Industry

The U.S. wireless industry has become intensely competitive because of the presence of spectrum crunch, the growing popularity of iPhone and Android smartphones as well as threats from online mobile video streaming, cloud computing and video conferencing services.

Competition has also intensified as success depends largely on technical superiority, quality of services and scalability. To stand out in this landscape, we recently saw the four major wireless telecommunications companies – AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile US and Verizon – participating in the unlimited postpaid data plan war.

T-Mobile US was ranked as the nation’s second-best network in terms of 4G LTE (Verizon was at the top), as per Open Signal’s “State of the Mobile Network” report. Additionally, the carrier inched ahead of its bigger rivals in several LTE speed tests as per Open Signal's award for the fastest LTE speeds.

Therefore offering the latest version of iPhone7, which requires strong wireless bandwidth, could be a boon for the company.

Bottom Line

Notably, T-Mobile US' 5G trials, 4G LTE network improvement, and expansion and deployment of the LTE-U technology in its LTE network looks impressive. We believe such network-related efforts have helped the company to gain 9.03% over the past three months against the Zacks-categorized Wireless National industry’s decline of 2.95%.

Moreover, T-Mobile US’ unlimited data plan of ‘T-Mobile One’ bodes well for its revenues. We believe the unlimited offerings, network trials and the upcoming sale of iPhone & products should drive substantial consumer growth.

T-Mobile US currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.
