Read MoreHide Full Article

Air Products (APD - Free Report) has announced plans to demonstrate the latest innovations in liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology at the Gastech Conference & Exhibition in Tokyo through Apr 4–7. Air Products, a world leader in LNG technology and equipment provides solutions for the entire range of LNG plants.

Per sources, the company’s industry specialists will make presentations on Innovative precooling strategies for efficient natural gas liquefaction”, “Innovative liquefaction technology for floating LNG” and “Flare reduction and availability improvement using Novel automated main cryogenic heat exchanger cooldown technology”.

Air Products has been a provider of equipment and technology for the world's first floating LNG facility. The company had built a second LNG equipment manufacturing facility in Manatee County, FL, where access to port services enable it to manufacture larger LNG heat exchangers which are in demand. In Sep 2016, the company rolled out the first LNG heat exchanger produced at the Port Manatee facility, which was shipped by barge to a location on the U.S. Gulf Coast for a major LNG terminal project.

Air Products has underperformed the Zacks categorized Chemicals-Diversified industry over the past three months. The company’s shares have declined around 5.7% over this period, compared with roughly 9.1% gain recorded by the industry.

However, Air Product’s industrial gases business in the EMEA region is witnessing pressure from a weak operating environment. The company is also seeing lower volumes in Latin America due to weak demand. Moreover, volumes in packaged gases continue to be weak while LNG sales remain under pressure due to low project activity. The company is also exposed to currency headwinds and has a debt-laden balance sheet.

Air Products missed earnings expectations in first-quarter fiscal 2017 (ended Dec 31, 2016). The company logged first-quarter adjusted earnings of $1.47 per share, up 9% from the year-ago quarter. However, earnings missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.48. Revenues inched up 1% year over year to $1.88 billion in the reported quarter but missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.96 billion.
