Data Center REIT – Digital Realty Trust, Inc. (DLR - Free Report) – declared achieving its 10th consecutive year of "five nines" of uptime, with 99.999% availability throughout 2016. This reflects the company’s efficiency in developing and delivering data center solutions which can be relied upon by customers.
This operational excellence has been achieved despite growth of the company’s portfolio over the years, which expanded from 79 data center suites in 2007 to over 500 data center suites in 2016.
Notably, using standard industry method, uptime metrics are based on complete evaluation of data center suites that are owned and operated by Digital Realty globally. However, per the company’s press release, data center suites within the eight European facilities, which were acquired by Digital Realty in Jul 2016, were not included in these results.
Moreover, recently the company exceeded 1.45 billion operating minutes across its 145 properties. These properties included around 23 million square feet in 33 metropolitan areas internationally.
With growth in cloud computing, Internet of Things and big data, as well as an increasing number of companies opting for third-party IT infrastructure, data center REITs are experiencing a boom market.
