Windstream Holdings (WIN) to Acquire Broadview Networks

Windstream Holdings Inc. recently entered into a $228 million deal to acquire Broadview Networks, a leading provider of cloud-based unified communications solutions to small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs). Windstream expects the acquisition to close in the third quarter of 2017 subject to necessary regulatory clearances.

Acquisition of Broadview networks will significantly enhance Windstream’s unified communications (UC) solutions for SMB customers. Broadview Networks offers a broad suite of cloud-based services under the OfficeSuite UC brand. Windstream expects to realize approximately $30 million in annual operating synergies within two years of completing the acquisition.

Moody's Investors Service described Windstream’s recent agreement to purchase Broadview as a positive move. However, the deal will not immediately impact the company's ratings, including its B1 corporate family rating or negative outlook assigned by the rating agency.

Windstream has launched new cloud-to-cloud disaster recovery management solutions which replicate mission-critical virtual servers and data to provide an alternative system for cloud-based disaster recovery system to the customers. The solutions also secure customer applications by replicating data from their private clouds into a cloud in Windstream’s cloud data center. Major advantage of the cloud-to-cloud disaster recovery system is that it is a hardware free approach providing continuous replication and instant data recovery.

Notably, in Feb 2017, Windstream received all state and federal regulatory approvals required for its proposed acquisition of EarthLink Holdings Corp. The deal will enable Windstream to achieve economies of scale to compete with larger firms like CenturyLink Inc. , Level 3 Communications Inc. and Frontier Communications Corp. .
