Top Pacific Equity Funds

Today we are featuring top-performing “Pacific" equity mutual funds, which primarily invest in equity securities of companies based in the Pacific Basin.

3 Solid Picks

Guinness Atkinson Asia Focus (IASMX) seeks long-term capital appreciation by investing at least 80% of its assets in equity securities of Asian companies. The fund is non-diversified.

The fund invests in approximately 35 to 40 stocks of all market capitalization companies, including companies in emerging markets, and does not engage in market timing. It pays dividends and capital gains in December.

HSBC Holdings Plc (HBC - Analyst Report - Analyst Report), China Mobile Ltd. (CHL - Analyst Report - Analyst Report) and CNOOC Ltd. (CEO - Analyst Report - Analyst Report) are among the fund’s top holdings.

Matthews Korea (MAKOX) was founded in January 1995. The fund seeks to achieve its investment objective by investing most of its assets, including borrowings for investment purposes, in the common and preferred stocks of companies located in South Korea.

J. Michael Oh has been the lead manager at the fund since January 2007. The fund topped the total returns of its benchmark index in the last year.

Samsung Electronics, NHN Corp and Yuhan Corp. are the fund’s key holdings. Unit holders have to make a minimum initial investment of $2,500 to enter the fund.

Ivy Pacific Opportunities A (IPOAX) seeks to provide, as a primary goal, long-term capital growth with current income as a secondary objective.

Frederick Jiang, who has been leading the fund since February 2004, has 14 years of industry experience. The fund has an expense ratio of 1.82%.

The fund’s top holdings include NetEase.com Inc. (NTES - Analyst Report - Analyst Report), China Mobile Ltd. (CHL - Analyst Report - Analyst Report) and Tata Power.
