• Verizon (NYSE:VZ - Analyst Report) reported third quarter earnings of 60 cents a share, almost inline with Zacks estimates, on revenues of $27.27 billion, also inline with expectations. Wireless revenues gained 24% versus a year earlier
• Corning (NYSE:GLW - Analyst Report) announced third quarter earnings of 42 cents a share, beating Zacks estimates of 39 cents a share. Revenues of $1.50 billion beat Zacks projections of $1.43 billion. CEO and Chairman noted, "The improvement we have seen over the past two quarters has increased our optimism for the fourth quarter"
• McGraw-Hill (NYSE:MHP - Analyst Report) reported third quarter results of $1.07, one cent ahead of Zacks estimates, on revenues of $1.88 billion, off estimates of $1.93 billion. The firm expects 2009 sales down 7% versus a 5.5-6.5% drop, with earnings at the top end of a $2.20-$2.25 range
• Alberto-Culver (NYSE:ACV) reported fiscal fourth quarter earnings of 33 cents, one penny above Zacks estimates
• Lorillard (NYSE:LO - Analyst Report) reported third quarter earnings of $1.44 a share, a miss by 8 cents, on revenues of $1.42 billion
• RadioShack (NYSE:RSH - Analyst Report) posted third quarter earnings of 30 cents, inline with Zacks estimates, on revenues of $990 million
