Nov 2: ISM Manufacturing Up
The ISM Manufacturing Index increased to 55.7 in October, higher than the expected increase to 53.1, from 52.6 in September and 52.9 in August ending the 18 month streak of contraction in the manufacturing sector as indicated by an index level below 50. 13 of 18 industries reported growth: Petroleum & Coal Products; Apparel, Leather & Allied Products; Furniture & Related Products; Chemical Products; Computer & Electronic Products; Transportation Equipment; Plastics & Rubber Products; Machinery; Food, Beverage & Tobacco Products; Printing & Related Support Activities; Fabricated Metal Products; Electrical Equipment, Appliances & Components; and Paper Products. 3 industries reported contraction: Nonmetallic Mineral Products; Primary Metals; and Wood Products.
