Today we are featuring top-performing “Pacific" equity mutual funds , which primarily invest in equity securities of companies based in the Pacific Basin.

Fidelity Advisor Emerging Asia A (FEAAX) seeks long term capital appreciation by investing the majority of its assets in securities of Asian emerging market issuers and other investments that are tied economically to Asian Emerging Markets. It was incepted in March 1994.

The fund normally invests in common stocks. The fund allocates investments across countries considering the size of the market in each country relative to the size of the markets in Asian countries with emerging markets as a whole.

Samsung Electronics, Fidelity Cash Cent Fund and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing are among the fund’s key holdings. As of April 2009, it has a portfolio turnover of 126%.

Kevin Chang has been lead manager of the fund since 21-Sep-04. Chang has been with Fidelity Investments in 1995 and is manager of Advisor Emerging Asia fund.

Matthews Pacific Tiger Fund (MAPTX) seeks long-term capital appreciation. It was incepted in September 1994.

The fund invests at least 80% of its assets in the common and preferred stocks of companies located in the Pacific Tiger countries. It has an expense ratio of 1.19%.

Shareholders have to make a minimum initial investment of $2,500 to enter this Zacks#1 Rank (“Strong Buy”) fund. The fund pays dividends and capital gains annually.

Richard H. Gao has been lead manager of the fund since January 2006. Gao is a Portfolio Manager with Matthews and joined the firm in 1997.

DFA Asia Pacific Small Company (DFRSX) was incepted in January 1993. It seeks to achieve long-term capital appreciation.

The fund pursues its objective by investing in a broad range of readily marketable stocks of small companies that are traded principally in the securities markets of the Pacific Rim. The fund invests in companies in Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Rim Asian countries like Singapore and Hong Kong.

The fund has an expense ratio of 0.21%. It distributes dividends and capital gains every December. Karen E. Umland has been lead manager of the fund since December 1998. She has been with Dimensional since 1993 and is a portfolio manager and vice president at the firm.
