Windstream Holdings Inc. , a leading local exchange carrier, is participating in the MEF17 Proof of Concept (“PoC”) Showcase from November 13-16, in Orlando, FL. The company will be promoting its SDN-enabled multi-vendor services at the event. MEF17 is focused on advancing Third-Network connectivity and cloud services for the digital economy & the hyper-connected world.
The other companies partnering with Windstream in the event are Ciena Corporation (CIEN - Free Report) , Infinera Corporation (INFN - Free Report) and Coriant.
The collaborative venture will build on Windstream’s in-production Software Defined Network Orchestrated Waves solution – SDNow – to illustrate intent based, on-demand automation of wavelength services in a multi-vendor, multi-platform, multi-domain environment. Windstream’s alliance with these industry pioneers highlights the benefits of multi-vendor network ecosystem.
The PoC will demonstrate end-to-end activation of Windstream’s high-speed, high capacity SDNowa transport solutions of 10G bandwidths on-demand. The showcase will include the leveraging of multi-domain service orchestration, the promotion of SDN controller software provided by the company’s vendor partners and live connectivity to Windstream’s 150,000 mile, fiber-optic network.
Windstream is one of the many wireless carriers leading the market by leveraging SDN to automate and accelerate the deployment of commercially available Layer 1 wavelength services. The multi-vendor collaboration that enables Windstream POC demonstration at MEF17, perfectly complements the carrier’s SDN suite as SDNow is generating revenue and satisfying customers with its Layer 1 services.
Windstream uses its optical network as a programmable resource to accelerate the delivery of optical wavelength services. The company’s agile, DevOps-style approach to automation development enables the company to abstract the complexity of service delivery and offers a simplified view of the multi-vendor optical layer. Currently, Windstream’s SDN services are available in five major third-party carrier neutral data centers in Chicago, Dallas, Ashburn, Miami and Atlanta.
