Will Target's Huge Black Friday Discounts Drive Solid Sales?

Read MoreHide Full Article

As Black Friday is a few weeks away, retailers are gearing up to deliver a seamless shopping experience with heavy discounts and special deals. In keeping with this, Target Corporation (TGT - Free Report) unveiled lucrative deals and offers for its customers. Also, the company’s Black Friday ad covers various deals, including video games, TVs, electronics, beauty sets, brands such as A New Day and Goodfellow & Co, among others. These items can be purchased at the best prices of the year at stores as well asTarget.com/BlackFriday.

Interestingly, early morning on Thanksgiving Day shoppers can purchase these deals on Target.com with free shipping on all the orders or when Target stores open at 6 p.m. Notably, the stores will be open till midnight on this day and then it is likely to re-open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday. However, the stores were open throughout the night in the previous year.

On Nov 6, Target’s Black Friday savings started with the popular Preview Sale. Unlike the previous years, discounts on products require no coupons or codes and will be applied automatically at checkout, resulting in a faster and convenient savings process. In fact, these deals will be available till 11:59 p.m. PST on the beginning day at all Target stores and its website. Meanwhile, the online orders can also be picked up at the stores.

For the first time, Target also has Black Friday offers for the customers spending $50 in its stores or on Target.com. They will receive a 20% discount coupon for a future shopping trip, redeemable between Nov 28 and Dec 10.

Furthermore, REDcard holders can avail the company’s more than 100 Black Friday offers on Nov 22, only through the Early Access sale on its website. Apart from the deal, REDcard holders will receive the usual additional 5% discount on almost all items. Markedly, this year will mark the maximum number of Black Friday deals the company has offered ever before on Thanksgiving Day.

Undoubtedly, Target is set to benefit from this year’s holiday season. Also, this U.S. general merchandise retailer has increased the minimum wages of its team members including the hired members for the holidays to $11 an hour, effective from October, 2017. Additionally, Target announced that the minimum hourly wages for all team members will be raised to $15 by the end of 2020. The move is expected to benefit employees with higher wages, right before the holiday season. The existing team members will also get an additional compensation, in excess of premium holiday pay.

Going forward, Target has plans to make eight of its 12 new brands available for customers (slated to be introduced by the end of next year), exclusive gifts under $15 and GiftNow on Target.com this holiday season.

Apart from Target, retailers like Kohl’s (KSS - Free Report) , Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN - Free Report) and J. C. Penney Company, Inc. have come up with special offers and discounts on Black Friday.

A look upon Target’s share price reveals that it has increased 5.4% last month compared with the industry’s growth of 1.9%. The company carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.
