Hartford Funds, a segment of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (HIG), has total assets of $91.5 billion under management (as of Jun 30, 2017). The company claims to manage more than 55 funds across a wide range of styles and asset classes.

Hartford Financial Services was founded in 1810 and is recognized as a renowned insurance company in the United States. Hartford MidCap HLS IB (HBMCX - Free Report)  seeks capital growth for the long run. HBMCX invests the majority of its assets in common stocks of mid-cap companies. These are companies whose market-cap falls within the range of the S&P MidCap 400 and Russell Midcap Indices. HBMCX may also invest up to one-fifth of its assets in securities of foreign issuers and non-dollar securities. Hartford MidCap HLS IB has returned 24.4% over the last year.

Hartford Small Company HLS Fund IA (HIASX - Free Report) primarily invests its assets in common stocks issued by small capitalization companies. HGOSX maintains a diversified portfolio by investing in common stocks of a wide variety of mid and large-cap companies, which are expected to have strong growth prospects. HGOSX may also invest up to one-fourth of its assets in securities of foreign issuers and non-dollar securities. Hartford Growth Opportunities R4 has returned 28.3% in a year’s time.

As of September 2017, HGOSX held 102 issues, with 6.31% of its assets invested in Alphabet Inc.
