Windstream Corp
(WIN - Analyst Report), a leading rural telecom carrier in the US, has reportedly launched a next-generation IP (Internet Protocol) solution that bundles voice, data and broadband Internet over a single IP connection.

The new service, “Dynamic Office − Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)”, leverages the Voice-over-IP (VoIP) technology and has been designed to offer businesses a cost-effective communication solution. It offers high quality voice and data communications to businesses by providing direct access to Windstream’s proprietary state-of-the-art IP network. This enables users to save money by getting rid of physical lines.

Dynamic Office – SIP offers multiple advanced features including fast downlink and uplink capabilities, intelligent call routing and sophisticated messaging. Moreover, it also promotes remote connectivity, thereby boosting workforce productivity and mobility.

Windstream faces a steady decline in its fixed-line telephone business, given the rapid customer migration to cellular and cable TV services. Wireless services from Tier-1 carriers such as AT&T (T - Analyst Report) and Verizon (VZ - Analyst Report) and broadband services by leading cable operators such as Comcast (CMCSA - Analyst Report) and Time Warner Cable (TWC - Analyst Report) are impeding the company’s addressable market. Sustained access line erosion continues to weigh on Windstream’s top line.

The company is on an acquisition binge as it continues to purchase smaller telephone operators and broadband Internet service providers to expand operational scale, subscriber base and product/service range. Windstream has purchased the rural service operator D&E Communications and the privately held Lexcom Inc and is set to buy regional competitive local exchange carrier NuVox Inc.

Windstream has strategized to fend off cable and wireless competition by offering bundled services to its customers. The company is marketing Triple-Play services to its residential customers that combine voice (local/long-distance), video and broadband Internet services. Windstream’s converged business solutions also include “Total Office”, a fully managed business phone system and Internet solution. Dynamic Office VoIP/SIP will further strengthen the company’s presence in the enterprise communication space.
