Read MoreHide Full Article

For investors seeking momentum, iPath US Treasury Long Bond Bear ETN is probably on the radar now. The note just hit a 52-week high and is up nearly 63.6% from its 52-week low price of $13.54/share.

But are more gains in store for this product? Let’s take a quick look at the note and the near-term outlook on it to get a better idea on where it might be headed:

DLBS in Focus

The product is designed to decrease in response to an increase in the long-dated Treasury bond yields and vice versa. DLBS charges 75 bps in fees per year from investors (see all Inverse Bond ETFs here).

Why the Move?

The inverse bond ETNs are much in demand of late on rising rate fears. The yield on 10-year U.S. treasury shot up to 2.88% on Feb 20, 2018, from 2.46% noted at the start of the year. Expectations of higher inflation and bond yields globally weighed on bond funds, which is why this inverse bond ETN performed well in recent sessions.

More Gains Ahead?

The product has a positive weighted alpha of 24.24. A positive weighted alpha hints at more gains.
