Juniper Networks (JNPR) Augments Cybersecurity Platform

Read MoreHide Full Article

In a concerted move to thwart data theft and other cyber crimes, Juniper Networks, Inc. (JNPR - Free Report) augmented its unified cybersecurity platform with improved features. The strategic endeavor is likely to empower customers to run their business enterprises across the globe with increased confidence at higher efficiency levels.

The unified cybersecurity solutions interoperate with existing devices in order to simplify security operations and mitigate operating risks. This typically leads to improved productivity and fortifies the businesses with stronger security posture across enterprise networks and public clouds.

Powered by the Software-Defined Secure Network, the unified cybersecurity platform offers adaptive detection, automated enforcement and one-touch mitigation. This helps to radically transform the business network into a cyber-defense system to proactively manage threats and detect hard-to-catch malware with threat behavior analysis.

Juniper Networks, a leading provider of networking solutions and communication devices, has also integrated its SRX Series Next-Generation Firewalls with the Advanced Threat Prevention Appliance for a consolidated timeline view of all threats in the network. This will enable a faster and proactive defense against known and unknown threats. The company has further extended its data centers for Juniper Sky ATP in Asia Pacific and Canada, in addition to its existing data centers in the United States and Europe. This is likely to facilitate compliance with regional data regulations with increased reliability on lower latency.

At the same time, the company has joined the Cyber Threat Alliance, an organization dedicated to improving the security of the global digital ecosystems through cyber threat information sharing. This will likely help Juniper Networks to reinforce its commitment to an open and unified approach to cybersecurity for a safer global business environment.

Despite having a strong security portfolio (SRX Platform & Security Software, Screen OS and other Legacy products), the company has not been doing well for the past few quarters due to lower-than-expected demand for non-Junos-based security products. Juniper Networks’ networking architecture runs on a single open source operating software named Junos. On the other hand, the poor performance by the Junos business prompted the company to sell off the mobile security unit. Going forward, the security business may remain a drag on results because of the loss of $30 million quarterly contribution by the mobile security platform.

The company has underperformed the industry in the last three months with an average loss of 16.3% compared with a decline of 6.9% for the latter. It remains to be seen whether the improved cybersecurity platform can help revive the fortunes of the company.
