TWC Expanding Wideband

Time Warner Cable Inc. (TWC), the second largest cable MSO of the U.S. is quickly expanding its wideband coverage using high-speed DOCSIS 3.0 technology leveraging its fiber-optic network. The company recently launched its residential tier wideband Internet in North Texas. Time Warner Cable will offer its residential tier Wideband service with 50 Mbps downstream and 5 Mbps upstream speed for $99.95. 

Like other cable operators, Time Warner Cable also started aggressively rolling out DOCSIS 3.0 network from yearly 2009. Earlier, the company has taken a decision to continue to roll-out switched digital video (SDV) in three major markets of Los Angeles, New York City, and Dallas. Deployment of SDV will free up bandwidth that can be used to offer DOCSIS 3.0. The company will offer DOCSIS 3.0 services to both the residential and business customers. 

Time Warner Cable has undertaken a massive "Ethernet Everywhere" strategy and booting up cloud computing services that involves delivering IP-based Ethernet services over fiber, where the company has already laid its optical cables, and using high-speed DOCSIS 3.0 technologies over its extensive hybrid fiber/coax plant. With this dual-strategy in place, the company can now offer Ethernet to any business on its network. 

The U.S. cables MSOs are aggressively deploying DOCSIS 3.0 technology to counter the threat from large telecom operators and satellite TV providers. Verizon Communications (VZ) with FiOS network and AT&T (T) with U-Verse network are likely to make the entertainment, information, and communications market highly competitive. Time Warner Cable wideband Internet empowers customers to boost productivity by saving time when multitasking.
