Read MoreHide Full Article

Broadcom Inc. (AVGO - Free Report) is showcasing a new Non-Volatile Memory Express (“NVMe”) over Fibre Channel (“NVMe/FC”) offering along with Vmware and NetApp (NTAP - Free Report) in NetApp Booth 1036 at VMworld 2018.

Per the press release, the new offering provides high level of storage performance essential for emerging technologies, like artificial intelligence (“AI”) real-time analytics, deep learning (“DL”), machine learning (“ML”) and other mission-critical applications.

The latest NVMe/FC solution runs on VMware’s vSphere server virtualization software. The demonstration leverages Broadcom’s Emulex LPe32002 Gen 6 HBAs and Brocade Gen 6 switch compatible with vSphere code’s pre-release version. The new solution is powered by NetApp’s AFF A300 all-flash array compatiblewith pre-release ONTAP.

Given the rapid adoption of emerging technologies, emergence of NVMe as a robust storage solution is expected to transform the future of storage. We believe it’s a win-win situation for all the three companiesinvolved.

Notable Benefits

The three distinguished names in their respective fields are coming together to offer a robust storage solution delivering high performance essential for enterprise on-premise storage area network (“SAN”) users.

Per a Demartek report, the new NVMe/FC solution offers 30% lower latency and 50% more input/output operations per second (“IOPs”) compared with aSmall Computer System Interface (“SCSI”) storage solution leveraging NetApp’s AFF A700 array.

The new solution has capability of handling the scalability requirements of next-generation applications.

The new NVMe/FC with concurrent SCSI support enables the customer to extend the use of its existing SAN architecture for meaningful applications. Additionally, the new solution offers a robust secure fabric platform suitable for handling mission-critical data.
