Read MoreHide Full Article

Electronic Arts (EA - Free Report) recently announced the release of NBA LIVE 19 on both PlayStation4 (PS4) and Xbox One.

The company updated NBA LIVE 19 with exciting game modes, features and customization levels to simulate a real game experience.

The latest title, which continues to carry THE ONE game mode from NBA 18, allows players to evolve from an amateur to a professional while progressing through the game.

Additionally, players can also build their own squad by competing in The Streets mode “while still dominating the leagues” across the world, in regions like Brazil, North America, France and Philippines. This will give users a chance to add some top basketball players along the way.

Moreover, players are free to customize their courts before inviting an opponent to a game. The player is also free to set his own rules for the game. As players progress in the game, they can unlock more modes and game rules.

EA has added several features this time around, the most important being the option to create and customize a female player.

We note that the company’s effort to bring in new and exciting content to its users is expected to drive live services and Mobile revenues, which will further drive digital business revenues.

Notably, EA launched NBA Live Mobile on Sep 5 especially for the mobile audience.

Growth in Digital Business Revenues

As consumers are increasingly spending more on smartphones and portable devices compared to traditional devices for playing online games, EA is well poised to benefit from this ongoing shift. Notably, digital revenues (84.2% of revenues) increased 8.9% to $957 million.

Per Newzoo’s market research data, more than 50% of the revenues will come from mobile games by 2020 and we believe the company is moving in the right direction to benefit from this trend.

Additionally, the company has been expanding its portfolio to cash in on the booming digital games market by releasing quite a few games.

FIFA 19, which is set to release on Sep 28 on Sony’s PS4, Xbox One, Origin for PC and Nintendo Switch systems, won the best sports award at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2018.

FIFA is an important growth driver for EA, given the franchise’s impressive sales track record. The FIFA franchise has sold more than 260 million copies worldwide to date. FIFA 18 sold more than 24 million copies in a span of 11 months.

Additionally, the company won the best online multiplayer award for Battlefield V, which directly competes with Activision’s Call of Duty (COD) and Epic game’s Fortnite.

Moreover, EA’s Anthem won the best PC game and best action game awards. This makes 2018 the best year by far for EA.

Competition Remains Intense

With the upcoming release of Take Two Interactive’s (TTWO - Free Report) Red Dead Redemption 2 and Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the gaming space is set to become increasingly competitive for EA.

Moreover, the increasing popularity and features of Fortnite, which won the best ongoing game award, is a concern for the company.

Nevertheless, this Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) stock with its award-winning portfolio of games and exciting content is expected to gain an edge over its peers going forward.
