Salesforce’s (CRM - Free Report) philanthropic branch Salesforce.org, recently announced that new upgrades have been added to its Education Cloud Platform. This is aimed at connecting the total education lifecycle and personalizing student engagement with new tools and advisors.

The new advancements in the Education Cloud include Salesforce Advisor Link 2.0, new Higher Education Data Architecture capabilities including the new K-12 (Kindergarten to 12th grade) education data architecture.

The Education Cloud was launched by the company in March this year, keeping in mind the shift in student demographics toward more non-traditional paths to education such as adult learners and part-time students among others. The cloud was introduced to aid education institutions in grooming and training students with innovative tools and offerings.

Growing Cloud & AI Usage in Education

For many network interfaces, the combination of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing has the maximum advantage.

Per Global Market Insights, the use of AI in education is expected to reach a worldwide market value of $6 billion over the next six years, with about 20% of that growth coming from K-12 education structure-based applications in the United States.

The research firm also projects that the U.S. education market consisting of K-12, higher education and corporate training, will reach about $3.4 billion by 2024, around $1.2 billion of which is expected to come from K-12 uses.

Tech Companies Vying for Shares

The largest technology companies are seeking to capitalize on the opportunity provided by the growth of AI in education market. These include IBM (IBM - Free Report) , Amazon (AMZN - Free Report) , Microsoft (MSFT - Free Report) , and Google.

IBM’s Watson Education, an AI driven platform that provides insights to teachers and students, recently announced a partnership with Edmodo and Scholastic on personalized learning.

Google Classroom, part of G Suite, is already a widely used technology. Amazon has also expanded its footprint in K-12 through Amazon Web Services, a cloud-based storage, data and analytics system, used by many educational institutes. Amazon has also announced its intention to develop a platform for open educational resources.

Moreover, last year, Microsoft, which offers Office 365 for education, unveiled a new operating system and set of classroom tools to provide educators an array of options to guide students.

However, with constant product innovations, technology upgrades and new offerings, Salesforce is well poised to combat the intensifying competition and cash in on the growing opportunities provided by the cloud and AI markets in education, boosting its strong growth trajectory.
