While the term ‘Black Friday’ didn’t become associated with consumerism until the mid-20th century—and things really geared up in the retail world during the ‘80s—it was actually first used way back in 1869 when the American gold market crashed.

Now, Black Friday has transformed even more, with sales stretching throughout the entire weekend and ending on Cyber Monday; many retailers start their Black Friday sales a week ahead online, and it’s common for stores to be open on Thanksgiving.

There has been some pushback to Black Friday recently, and the hubbub of sales surrounding the shopping holiday. Retailers like REI and Shoe Carnival (SCVL - Free Report) stand out because they stay closed on Thanksgiving so that their employees can spend time with family. Many consumers also plan to shop on Small Business Saturday to support their locally owned businesses.

But, this hasn’t stopped other big retail names from ramping up their own Black Friday deals, especially in this bullish retail market. You can bet that Target (TGT - Free Report) , Walmart (WMT - Free Report) , Amazon (AMZN - Free Report) , Ulta Beauty (ULTA - Free Report) , and Macy’s (M - Free Report) , among many others, will have a bunch of deals to choose from.

If you decide to venture out and brace the crowds, good luck and happy shopping!

Will You Make a Fortune on the Shift to Electric Cars?

Here's another stock idea to consider. Much like petroleum 150 years ago, lithium power may soon shake the world, creating millionaires and reshaping geo-politics. Soon electric vehicles (EVs) may be cheaper than gas guzzlers. Some are already reaching 265 miles on a single charge.

With battery prices plummeting and charging stations set to multiply, one company stands out as the #1 stock to buy according to Zacks research.

It's not the one you think.
