• JP Morgan (NYSE:JPM - Analyst Report) posted second quarter EPS of $1.09 which was above Zacks estimates of 71 cents. Revenues were $25.6 billion, down 7.6% from the year-ago period, compared with Zacks estimates of $25.5 billion
• Novartis (NYSE:NVS - Snapshot Report) reported second quarter EPS of $1.06 which was below Zacks estimates of $1.12. Revenues rose 11.1% year over year to $11.7 billion versus Zacks estimates of $11.4 billion
• Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE:FCS - Snapshot Report) reported second quarter EPS of 40 cents versus Zacks estimates of 31 cents. Revenues increased 8.4% year over year to $409.6 million compared with Zacks estimates of $399 million
• Marriot International (NYSE:MAR - Analyst Report) reported second quarter EPS of 31 cents versus Zacks estimates of 28 cents. Revenues stood at $2.77 billion versus Zacks estimates of $2.51 billion
• Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL - Analyst Report) announced plans to address iPhone 4 related issues, following growing criticism about antenna-design issues, which culminated in Consumer Reports' failure to recommend the new smartphone
• Carlyle announced plans to purchase NBTY (NYSE:NTY) for $3.8 billion in cash, or $55 per share
• Kaufman initiated coverage of IBM (NYSE:IBM - Analyst Report) with a Hold and a price target of $135
• Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS - Analyst Report) and the SEC have reportedly been discussing a possible settlement, which could involve fines of more than $1 billion and avoid charges of civil fraud
