Arizona Public Service (“APS”), a unit of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (PNW - Analyst Report), together with premier retailer Macy's Inc. (M - Analyst Report) and solar panel producer SunPower Corp. (SPWRA), installed a 3.5–megawatt (MW) solar power system at the Macy's online fulfillment center in Goodyear, Arizona.

SunPower has designed and installed the system at the Arizona site, featuring the SunPower®T5 Solar Roof Tile. The company has also agreed to provide ongoing operations and maintenance services for the site.

The SunPower®T5 Solar Roof Tile is the solar industry's first non-penetrating rooftop product that combines a high-efficiency solar panel, frame and mounting system into a single pre-engineered unit.  Tilted at a five-degree angle, the T5 Roof Tile system nearly doubles the energy generated per square meter compared to other systems that are mounted flat onto commercial rooftops.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates the installed Goodyear system to offset more than 3,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, equivalent to removing more than 600 cars from Arizona's highways each year.

This environment-friendly act of the three companies was applauded by the city of Goodyear. The city appreciated Macy's and APS for supporting renewable energy, and bringing this very significant SunPower solar power system into its area.

Apart from benefiting from SunPower’s excellent and reliable solar technology, the Goodyear project was made affordable by financial rebates from APS, Macy's local energy provider at Goodyear. APS provided these rebates through its Renewable Energy Incentive Program, which offers discounts to customers who add renewable energy systems to their homes or business.

APS, Arizona's largest and longest-serving electricity utility, serves about 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state's 15 counties. With its headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the largest principal of Pinnacle West Capital Corp.

SunPower is a vertically integrated solar company with presence across the entire solar value chain. The company designs, develops, manufactures, markets and sells high-performance solar electric power technology products, systems and services worldwide for residential, commercial and utility-scale power plant customers.

Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, with an additional office in New York, Macy’s Inc. is one of the leading department store retailers in the United States. The company, through its retail stores and Internet websites (macys.com and bloomingdales.com), trades in a wide range of merchandise, including men’s, women’s and children’s apparel and accessories, cosmetics, home furnishings and other consumer goods in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico.
